On November 17, 2010 the News Agency “Kabar” held a press conference following the working sessions for preparation of the National Strategy for Development of Intellectual Property and Innovation in the Kyrgyz Republic for the period up 2015.

Mrs. Zina Isabaeva, Director of Kyrgyzpatent, Mr. Michal Svantner, Director of the Division for Cooperation with Certain Countries in Europe and Asia of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and Mr. Ron Marchant, Consultant of the WIPO, participated in the press conference.

On March 5, 2010 in the “Kabar” news agency the press conference took place on the results of the WIPO delegation visit with participation of Mr. Michal Svantner, Director of the Division for Certain Countries in Europe and Asia, WIPO, Mr. Ron Marchant, the WIPO Independent Consultant, Mr. Alexander Matveev, Senior Consultant of the Division for Certain Countries in Europe and Asia. Mr. Bakyt Kenenbaev, State Secretary of the State Intellectual Property Service participated in the press conference.

On March 4, 2010 the meeting of the WIPO delegation and Kyrgyzpate officials took place with representatives of the creative unions’ representatives to change by information and suggestions for development of the National Strategy in the field of intellectual property.

The representatives of the Union of Writers, Composers, Painters, Cinematographers, People’s Craftsmen and the Village Development Fund participated in this event.

Mr. Kurmantai Abdiev, Head of Office, declared this on March 3, 2010 during the meeting with the WIPO delegation and Kyrgyzpatent’s representatives. The meeting was dedicated to questions regarding the incoming development of the National Strategy of the KR on intellectual property and innovations.

On March 3, 2010 the management staff of the State Intellectual Property Service (SIPS KR) and the delegation of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) met with Mr. Eric Usubaliev, the Deputy Minister of Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic, and staff of the Ministry.

Mr. Michal Svantner, Head of the WIPO delegation and Director of the Division for certain countries in Europe and Asia, outlined the joint project with the SIPS KR project to develop a national strategy for intellectual property and innovation.

On March 3, 2010 as said Mr. Michal Svantner, Director of the Division for Certain Countries in Europe and Asia of the World Intellectual Property Organization during a meeting of the WIPO delegation with Mrs. Cholpon Bayekova, Vice-Speaker of Jogorku Kenesh.

He noted that the Kyrgyz legislation in the field of intellectual property is one of the most progressive in the former Soviet Union. And not every developed country can boast with the adoption of such regulations as the Law “On protection of traditional knowledge”.

Deficiency of law and defects of enforcement policy create a serious barrier for intellectual property effective protection. These issues were discussed by participants of the Round Table on the National Strategy development in the field of IP, which was held in the Conference hall of the State Customs Service on March 2, 2010.

On March 1, 2010 the delegation from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and Kyrgyzpatent leadership met with Mr. Uchkunbek Tashbaev, Deputy Head of the Central Agency for Development, Investments and Innovations.

The WIPO delegation was represented by Mr. Michal Svantner, Director of the Division for Certain Countries in Europe and Asia, Mr. Ron Marchant, Independent Consultant and Mr. Alexander Matveev, Senior Counselor of the Division for Certain Countries in Europe and Asia.

[b][i]On March 1, 2010 the first meeting of international experts with Kyrgyzpatent’s officials was held in the State Intellectual Property Service of the Kyrgyz Republic.

On February 24, 2010 in Kyrgyzpatent the first Press-session for representatives of mass media was held, dedicated to familiarity with the basic conceptions and legal aspects in the field of intellectual property. The Press-session was dated for the WIPO experts visit to Kyrgyzstan having a purpose to discuss the questions concerned with the National strategy development for intellectual property.

Mr. Daniyar Sydykov, Deputy Director opened the Press-session by welcoming speech, he noted a significance of such events.
