In the 11th issue of official bulletin “Intellectual Property” November 2009 among different the patent under the applicant’s responsibility for industries design was published : “Keyboard with kyrgyz alphabet”, Mr. Nurmukamed Abdykadyrov, young businessman is an author and right holder of the patent.

How did you come up with an idea for such keyboard?

Ten years ago computers and Internet became a part of our typical day, at the same time the possibility to print texts in Kyrgyz language appeared. The most famous prints were “ArialKy” and “TimesKyr”. In such prints, specific Kyrgyz letters were in the keyboard under various letters and symbols. For example sometimes letter “Ө” located under symbol “+ ”, in other case under “Ъ”. It was uncomfortable. Especially for editors of web-sites and print publications. During creation of the web-page in Kyrgyz language, authors were forced to download letters for correct imaging the pages.

Not long ago many computer clubs were offering their services on the printing text in Russian, English, Kyrgyz and other languages. Once, when I was passing by one of the Internet clubs, I saw the signboard with announcement that printing text in Russian and English costs 15 soms per page, whereas this in Kyrgyz – 25 soms. It hurt me a bit. And I asked myself: “Is it really that this problem cannot be decided?”.

Operation system Windows XP allowed to repair many problems, concerning Kyrgyz language and Microsoft added something new: It was “Kyrgyz layout” and Unicode-prints with built Kyrgyz letters. We have got possibility to print text in Kyrgyz language irrespective of other symbols and letters. But for printing specific letters of in Kyrgyz language, users should to press minimum two or three keys. This also caused some problems for users. Then I come up with the idea about keyboard with built Kyrgyz letter.

Tell us briefly about keyboard and how it works?

The QWERTY-keyboard layout has not been changed, nobody’s rights were damaged, alternatively, expanded. The keyboard is characterize by specific shape with keys grouped by functional principle and having a graphical figuration in the shape of symbol signs, letters, verbal marks and arithmetic symbols. At the same time for the letter “Ө” and “Ү” are provided individual keys. Keyboard operates by Unicode-prints, entered to the new operation systems.

What is your keyboard advantage?

The main advantage is that there is no need to press additional keys, in order to print the “Ө”, “Ң”, “Ү, that is why working with it is much more comfortable. That is my contribution for enhancing the state language, the issue about necessity to raise its status is very urgent at present time.

How do you realize your idea without special education?

The idea about creation of keyboard came in the beginning of 2008, since then I put the task for myself: To realize it by any means. I addressed programmers, many time consulted with them, contacted producers to realize my idea and in October 2008, I had a model of my idea – keyboard with Kyrgyz alphabet.

Why did you decide to patent your creation?

First this idea is mine, and I spend my resources to realize it. It would be so pity if someone poach rights of it or use it without my consent.

Second, I’m planing to find sponsors, for industrial production and my keyboard will be useful for our citizens.
