Kyrgyzpatent has been appointed as the official representative of Kyrgyzstan in the GAC ICANN

The State Intellectual Property Service (Kyrgyzpatent) has been appointed as the official representative of Kyrgyzstan of the Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC ICANN). On December 2009 Kyrgyzpatent initiated negotiation on entrance into the GAC and at this year beginning Kyrgyzstan was admitted to the Governmental Advisory Committee.

The role of the Advisory Committee is to give consultations of the ICANN on moot cases concerning state policy. First of all, the Committee considers the ICANN’s activity and policy in the context of public interests, particularly in cases of any interaction appearance between the ICANN policy and national laws, as well as international agreements.

Membership in the GAC allows influencing to the policy in the field of DNS administration and relating functions, which are important for the Internet exploitation as a whole. The GAC is striving to take into account a views diversity of states representatives and their recommendations to the ICANN.

At present time the Governmental Advisory Committee includes 109 representatives from different states. Regularly more than 30 national governments, multinational government organizations, such as the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and others, participate in the work of the Committee.
