On 30 June 2009 Mr. Ulan Melisbek, Chairman of the State Patent Service of the KR met with Dr. Hak-Tae Lim, President of the Company «Hi-Tech Agro», Professor of the Kangwon National University, the South Korea.
The meeting was concentrated on issues in the field of selection achievements, in particular, the development of different varieties of potatoes.
Dr. Lim demonstrated the catalogue of developments «Potato Valley». He informed that his company’s potato varieties are currently protected in the Russian Federation, India, US, Australia and European countries. Now his goal is to patent these achievements and to ensure the protection in Kyrgyzstan.
The main purpose of Dr. Lim’s visit to Kyrgyzpatent was to know requirements existing in Kyrgyzstan to register selection achievements, as well as other details relating to selection developments protection in our country.
Director of Kyrgyzpatent expressed readiness to cooperate with Dr. Lim, and assured that the Office’s experts will consult him and answer all the questions.
Scientific researchers in the field of potato selection of the Kangwon National University and the Korean Center for Genetic Resources of Potato under the supervision of Prof. Hak-Tae Lim have developed the following different varieties:
Bora Valley (with high level of antioxidants)
Golden Valley (low-caloric, with vitamin C)
Gogu Valley (high content of sugar and protein)
Early Valley (early, low-caloric)
Juice Valley (for potato juice with high level of antioxidants)
Winter Valley (for autumn and winter harvest).
The main emphasis is placed on new varieties of potatoes developing with quick adaptability to climatic conditions in countries of the Asia-Pacific region
