On June 19, 2009, the State Patent Service of the Kyrgyz Republic jointly with Mayor Office of Bishkek and Judicial Department will arrange the action “Fight piracy”.

Within the action counterfeit (pirated) audiovisual products seized by law enforcement bodies are to be destroyed, more than 25 000 counterfeit discs of different format.

The purpose of this action is to promote enforcement of national legislation in the field of copyright and related rights protection, as well as protection of licensed products.

National pop stars (Mirbek Atabekov, S’ezdbek Iskenaliev, Zamir Arykbaev, Ilias Andash, Baktygul Badyeva, Alkamil, Darkhan, Isa, Ilias Abdyrazakov, Syndicate dance band) will participate in this event.

As any other commercial activity – rent, sale, copying of audiovisual products provide benefits, which are to be supervised by fiscal authorities. Despite the fact that this activity is under control, there is a category of people that violates all effective normative legal acts of the Kyrgyz Republic, illegally uses copyright and related rights objects and gain unreported “shadow” profits. This category falls under the notion of “pirates” and their activity is called “piracy”, meaning illegal use of copyright and related rights for their commercial purposes with no consent of authors and right owners. Legislation of the Kyrgyz Republic provides for criminal, administrative and civil liability for violation of copyright and related rights. All over the world the law enforcement bodies fight against IP piracy, and authors’ and legal organizations assist them in terms of legal, information, expert and other assistance.
